Once that we finished with the deck replacement in July, I started planning the layout of the area that will surround the structure. The usual choice is to build a wooden fence around the deck or to build wooden raised plant beds around certain sections. Well, we do not make usual choices! π
Anyhow, I figured that due to the fact that I already made some stone walls all around the property, that a nice stone raised bed could be a proper thing to make. The decision was made!
In August I started cleaning and preparing the area and I placed a few building blocks that I had over on the property I guess since the basement was made in the early 90’s. Well, I used those and placed them near the deck in order to have the same distance from the structure without overthinking it too much. After that I started the long process of building the stone wall that would be a plant bed.

Well, first of all I needed stones, plenty of those nice-flat-as-possible granite stones. It’s a good thing that just at the very limit of our property I started digging in order to accommodate the room that in the future will be just under our future garage. Well, that project (the garage one) as you may understand will wait a bit, but as of now I have a good amount of stones there in that place. Well, in April I started digging the area and cleaning a bit. The weather was nice, not too cold and not too hot either, and I was actually waiting for the lumber for the desk, so, there was nothing else to do there but to dig and create THE WALL to begin with and keep the best stones for this project.

The rocks were there, ready to be used, and in August, when I finished other minor projects and ideas that I was working on, I started the build. I did repaired the cement mixer that I borrowed from a friend of mine, but I decided to run the whole project with the manual mixer. It was a good choice – I had a cleaner working area, I could mix with almost no effort the desired mixture and the whole process was quite quick as well.
Well, the only problem that I had was the heat during those few warmer days. The mix dried a bit too quickly. But at that point I was placing big stoned so a lot of material was used anyway.
The whole construction was finally done a few weeks after the start. Maybe a month after. This because I could actually work on the project just during the weekends when we had nothing else planned and when the weather allowed it as well. Well, the weather in Sweden is a completely separate chapter! π

I’m quite content with the final result. I might adjust a stone or two in the future (or maybe not) and I’m seriously considering to place a lovely led light all around the deck. Actually, I already decided that!
I learned a lot during this build and I know that this knowledge will be very useful when I will build the wall that will have the green house on hopefully in 2027. π
So, this is the final result. I hope that you like it as much as I do! π
