In April 2026 I got an idea to create some stone “walls” in order to create a more “cozy” layout of the garden. At the same time, due to the existence of quite large gap in the property that was intended to save the house from the water and humidity that runs downhill from the woods during stronger rains, I wanted to reshape that particular area into something that would need minimal maintenance from us and have a decent design as well.
I love stones, they remind me of the area where I come from and we do use the stone walls not only as decoration, but as a way to clean the soil in a proactive way in order to plant the plants that we want/need. We do not need to clean the soil from stoned here in Sweden, though there is a huge amount of stones just below our lovely lawn. I just wanted to reshape a bit the layout of the garden, make it a bit safer for the lawnmower and a bit more interesting for the children as well.
The idea came to me to pave the whole channel with stones on top of a weed barrier and create a stone bed that would accommodate some tasty berries. I liked the idea, and in April 2026 i made things happen. I dug many useful stoned from the southern part of our property where the garage should be in some years or so. Not an easy task that one! 🙂
The whole idea is to have all the borders of our property that follow more or less the same structure and design and the stones would make a central part of it.
In 2025 I already created that long stone raised bed that would have flowers and perennials and give a colorful aspect to the garden as well as attracting the much needed insects:
This year, in April 2026, as stated in the text above, I started to pave the ditch (a small size trench created to channel water) with stones. And on one side of it I created a stone bed and planted various berry plants in it. On the other side of the ditch a lovely green house will be created. The problem with that project is that I need to build the walls inside the hole that i dug, but that is another story…
Below is the image of the house with an ongoing creation of the stone bed all around the new deck. There is a lot to be done before finishing that project. 🙂
