We decided to paint the facade and change a bit the colour as well.
Unfortunately, the previous owners made a choice to use synthetic colours on top of the classic red one used on these lovely red houses in Sweden. This made us unfortunately use more or less the same type of colour.
We knew that we would love to have a bit brighter red colour and the facade was quite OK structurally. The wood was OK, but the old pigment was not really in a good shape. We knew that we would need to put a ton of effort into the project that involves scraping, removing old colour where it has air under or where it’ broken, review the wooden parts where needed replacing the parts etc.
Months ago we noticed that insects have damaged a part of the house. The company that was used by our insurance did nothing to help us fix the issue. They just suggested a product to get rid of the insects, but no information or suggestion was provided to fix the damage. A good thing is that our neighbour is an old carpenter that helped us. He replaced the damaged part, made a lovely aesthetic touch and we were really pleased with the outcome.
I managed to fix other minor damages, change a few boards and fix other things that needed to be taken care of before any paint job.

It took me weeks to remove the old paint, apply the protective product and apply two coats of new paint. But the final result was indeed satisfying.

I think that the images here in this article don’t really show the difference, still, we are very pleased with the result. We can enjoy this for approx. 10 years now – that was written on the colour information. Should we trust it? I don’t think so, but it doesn’t matter. The next time we will not paint again. That time we will be changing the whole facade. But that will be another story. 🙂
